Forest honey, also known as honeydew honey, is a special type of honey produced by bees collecting "honeydew" – plant sap from deeper layers, accessed by bees with the help of insects that feed on it. Unique in its aroma, flavour and colour, forest honey is the most highly prized among honeys due to its exceptional medicinal and nutritional properties. Due to the special natural conditions required for its creation, this honey is not harvested every year. In Kopački rit Nature Park, where our bees from Vrt prirode collect nectar and honeydew, forest honey was last harvested seven years ago. In this area, forest honey is mainly produced from oak sap.
"Unlike nectar honey, honeydew honey is rich in minerals such as potassium, magnesium and phosphorus, which is why many consider it even more beneficial for human health. In natural medicine, forest honey is often used to relieve cold and flu symptoms due to its antibacterial properties. It is also known for its ability to improve digestion, reduce inflammation and help regulate body weight. Oak honeydew honey is well known for being used by the locals of Sardinia since ancient times to disinfect skin wounds and treat sore throats. On top of all this, forest honey has also gained popularity in the cosmetics industry."
