WALKOW is an unfiltered and unpasteurised beer, with no additives or artificial colourings.
The main ingredients are: three types of barley malt, hops and yeast.
The beer has a characteristic “blonde” style, also known as “golden ale” – meaning a milder, lighter variation of American ale with slightly fewer hops and less aroma. Blonde ale was originally conceived as a way for consumers to transition from commercial beers to craft beers.
THE MEANING OF THE NAME:
Walkow – an Old Croatian name for the Vukovar fortress dating back to the union with Hungary, when Vukovar was a guardian of Croatian identity and one of the first towns to be granted free royal city status (even before Zagreb). At that time, Vukovar was known for its fortress firmly built on the high bank of the Danube, which gave the town its name back then. In more recent times, in 1968, a new fortress was built in Vukovar, today a symbol of invincibility – the Vukovar Water Tower – which, despite being struck by numerous projectiles during the Homeland War (more than 600), remained standing, persistent and stubborn, a reflection of the steel will of the people who defended the city.
