Organic egg farming involves practices that ensure high product quality while respecting animal welfare and the environment. Laying hens in organic farming roam freely outdoors, are fed exclusively on organically certified feed, and are not exposed to unnecessary chemical treatments. This approach results in eggs that are richer in nutrients and better tasting.

Under European regulations, laying hen farming must comply with Directive 98/58/EC concerning the protection of animals kept for farming purposes, which sets minimum standards for their protection. Furthermore, Directive 1999/74/EC has banned the use of unenriched cages since 1 January 2012, encouraging a transition to alternative housing systems such as enriched cages, barn, or free-range farming. In organic farming, hens must have access to outdoor space, and the indoor stocking density must not exceed nine hens per square metre. Poultry must be fed exclusively with organically produced feed or compound feed, produced on the farm itself or sourced from organic production.
